is around the corner. NC beat Duke last night at their house and with the ACC Tournamnet taken place this week, the spotrs media would like to see another
match between the two teams. The ACC fans do get tired of seeing the two teams dominating year after year. I'm hoping for any other team in the ACC to make
to the ACC Championship game.
This college basketball season has a different feel and the next three weeks are going to be highly entertaining. Alot of teams that have the ability to be at the final dance .
I am a die hard ACC fan but this year I discovered that I could root for a Big 10 team. Up until two weeks ago, I would have given INDIANA University a thumbs up chance of going deep in the NCAA Tournament. A little problem resurfaced at IU from an NCAA investigation. The IU Coach Sampson was put on notice that the University was going to move quickly to deal with his illegal calls to potential players. On top of the illegal calls, the NCAA claims an IU tee shirt and IU bookbag was given to two players attending a basketball camp at IU last summer. The basketball team had played the year under the cloud of the investigation. It is an irony that Sampson would commit the same illegal violations. I am still wondering why be so dumb! The IU team was good until the University fired or bought out Sampson's contract two weeks ago. The fire is gone from the team and it is sad that all the team's hard work is lost. Coach Sampson was a likable guy and he had the team on a winning track. They knew how to play defense and deliver on the offensive side of the ball. The winning ways were back at the IU games.
The IU alumni helped to buy out the Sampson contract because they don't want to have any basketball scandal attached to their college. The problem appears to be that IU chose the wrong ASST Coach to replace Sampson. The diehard IU alumni got their man Dan Dakich in as interim head coach. Dan played for IU and was an asst under Coach Bob Knight for at least 12 years. It would seem that IU has placed the future of this years's team on a man that can't ignite the fire in the players. What a strange move from the IU AD and TPTB to remove Sampson than wait for the hearing in June...IMO, they disrupted the concentration of a very young team that saw Coach Sampson as a father like figure.
