You know, what I find interesting about all of this is that people seem to be wringing their hands over whether Michael Vick will play again as though the NFL hasn't been able to exist without him. In reality, the media has been busy hyping a supposed "star" quarterback who's barely flickered most of the time during his playing career. Vick has had a flash of brilliance here and there, but he hasn't lit the world on fire since he came into the league in 2001. If we are truly talking about "stars" of the NFL, names like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady (even though I personally can't stand Tom Brady), and Brett Favre are on that list, along with others such as Reggie Bush, LaDainian Tomlinson, Shaun Alexander, Chad Johnson, and most recently, Vince Young.

Those guys are the ones that you always hear about on ESPN. They have "buzz," and they are stars in the eyes of many NFL fans. If one of them was in Vick's position, then I'd agree this would be more of an issue for the NFL. The news media is busy telling us that Michael Vick is a "star" the same way that GL kept insisting that Marina was all pure, lovely, and the next candidate for sainthood. Vick may be a star to the fans of the Falcons, but I think to most football fans outside of the state of Georgia, he was simply the Falcons starting quarterback.

He's probably going to be out of football for at least two years, and in that time there will be at least two college football seasons. The stars of tomorrow are busy being cultivated on college campuses as we speak, and I'm sure that there will be at least two major talents that will explode on to the NFL scene during that time. Yeah, Michael Vick could conceivably play at some point in the future, but he has basically rendered himself to be even more irrelevant than he was during the years when he did play football and didn't live up to all his hype. I don't think that people should stress about whether or not he will play again. The NFL will be fine, and Vick will fade into oblivion just like Barry Bonds will when A-Rod takes care of business in about 10 years. Just give it time.
